Gugulethu Sofia Mbatha known by her stage and screen name Gugu Mbatha Raw. Her popularity grew due to her appearance in the BBC science fiction TV series Doctor Who. In 1989 her diagnosis was cancer and died ten years afterward. Her father was Jewish, and she was educated in Reform Judaism. Handler had a happy and healthy life growing up in an affluent neighborhood. Handler was 19 when she decided to move into Los Angeles and pursue acting. Handler became an actress to assist her. Handler at the time was 21 and decided to pursue stand-up comics full time after discovering her storytelling skills. Handler began her stand-up career being a part of the all-female Oxygen cast, which was a part of a television show named Girls Behaving Badly. This series was known for its hidden camera as well as humorous jokes. The series ran from 2002 to2005. The host appeared on numerous shows including Weekends at D.L. The Bernie Mac Show The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler started working on The Tonight Show as a reporter. Handler was given her first major break when she hosted her E! Show in 2006. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend, HBO and Comedy Central have all broadcasted her stand-up comedy shows. Her name was chosen as the host of MTV's 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in 2010. With this, she became only the second female to host the VMA's following Roseanne Barr.
